Psychedelic care in San Diego.
California has debated regulated psychedelic therapy for years without passing it. Governor Newsom vetoed a decriminalization bill (SB 58) in 2023, and a regulated-therapy bill (SB 1012) died in committee. A bipartisan pilot, the Heal Our Heroes Act, would have let San Diego, San Francisco, and Santa Cruz run supervised psilocybin programs for veterans and first responders; it also died in committee. Newer veteran-focused proposals and a 2026 ballot effort continue the conversation, but as of 2026 no regulated program exists, and psilocybin remains Schedule I under state and federal law.
San Diego has not passed a local deprioritization measure, unlike Oakland, San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Berkeley, and a few other California cities. Most people here access care through medical ketamine and esketamine, through clinical trials at local research institutions, or by traveling to licensed psilocybin services in Oregon or Colorado. Our concierge helps you compare these routes, understand the legal picture, review medical and psychological safety, and plan preparation and integration so you are matched with a vetted guide.
What to budget for.
Ketamine and esketamine: cost depends on format, number of sessions, supervision, and integration. In San Diego, IV ketamine commonly runs several hundred dollars per session, with a starting course of multiple sessions. Esketamine (Spravato) is often insurance-covered for treatment-resistant depression because it is FDA-approved; IV and IM ketamine for mental health are usually off-label.
Psilocybin services in Oregon or Colorado: licensed centers set their own session pricing, usually including preparation and integration. Add travel and lodging. Verify licensing on the state program sites before booking.
Our concierge fees are separate from any provider's charges. Ask about HSA or FSA eligibility where applicable; policies vary.

A long policy debate
California has come close to regulated psychedelic therapy several times. San Diego lawmakers even co-authored a veterans pilot that named the city. None has become law, so access today runs through other routes.
Not decriminalized locally
Several California cities have deprioritized entheogen enforcement. San Diego has not. State law applies, and psilocybin remains illegal here.
A strong clinical and research base
San Diego's hospitals and universities run mental-health and psychedelic research. Ketamine and esketamine are widely available. Quality and approach vary, which is where vetting matters.
